Steam Engineer Protective Equipment

December 18, 2017 10:58PM
Since 1980 I have run the 30 ton, oil fired 30 inch gauge Austrian 0-6-2T at the Omaha Zoo. I really want to learn how to fire with coal so I'll be heading to Chama in July for Fireman School. I would like to have some of the black protective sleeves that I have seen steam train crews wear. Anybody have any info on where to get them or how to make them, as in what kind of material, or any other info. I visited the C&TS in 2016 and in 2017. Narrow Gauge is now firmly a part of my being. Thanks. Tom
