If you want to see a bucket line dredge (and what it did to a beautiful valley) visit the Sumpter Valley Railway and the little town of Sumpter, Oregon. There are self guided tours of the large dredge, which is a state park and partially restored. The valley is now a series of rock piles. Between the piles are small ponds, truly mosquito heaven.
