Gee Whiz, Guys -
Whiz being closely associated with beer consumption, it probably goes back to the time-honored tradition of trainmen knocking back a few cold ones after sixteen hours of hard work. And specifically here on the NGDF to the close association of D&RGW #483 with Reingold "beer" in a late-forties ad campaign – see [
ngdiscussion.net] et seq. More recently, the Georgianatown Loop-de-Loop was considered for a similar sponsorship by St. Pauli Girl – here's a photo of GTL #9 temporarily dolled up with a press-on vinyl logo to test the concept

Of course you can blame Roosso for the popularity of GRAMP
S Chromo Crude Triple Chocolate Stout – inspired by both the 75th Anniversary a few years ago of Lafayette Hughes' first use of his famous logo on leased UTLX tank cars, and by Stephen Flowers' famous Triple Chocolate Cake at the C&TS lunch stop in Osier – see [
ngdiscussion.net] for further info.
Last but not least, the popularity of certain rare brews can undoubtedly be attributed to the fact that the names of some of these adult beverages can also readily and specifically be applied to several of the more frequent contributors to this forum and/or at least one monitor thereof. Monikers such as 'Old Rasputin', 'Old Curmudgeon' and 'Arrogant Bastard' certainly fit several of those who post here or, in some cases, have gathered up their marbles (so to speak) and stomped off (see [
ngdiscussion.net]). And what could be more suited to quenching the thirsts of a caboose-full of foamers, such as our own Festus J. Frothjaw, than a few bottles of 'Moose Drool' ale?
- Sincerely,
Willie (Wm. Claude Johnson-Barr III, Esq.)
