Could have happened...those would have been at Huehuetoca just outside
of Mexico City after you pass through Barrientos Tunnel.
I got a quick glimpse of them in March of 1982 while on a train.
Don't know just how far talks went, but the Grand Canyon Ry. discussed NdeM QR-1 types
around 1989 when they were just starting up. Modest power, around 55,000 lbs t..e. IIRC, but
the 70 inch drivers would have been well suited to their profile. Also, they did quite well in the last
years on drag freights and held the rail pretty well.
