Last Thursday was a productive one in our Antonito shops with the removal of DRG 168's pistons, main rods, and side rods. In general, the condition of the components lived up to our expectations although some machining necessary to rehabilitate the locomotive to service. However, other than corrosion damage, it is clear the 168 was retired with many miles remaining in the running gear, a departure from the condition of many display locomotives. Painting of the tender will commence shortly, and the new riveted main reservoir is also in process, and will be mounted on the rear deck of the tender when complete. I would like to thank everyone for their support and interest of this worthy project and hope you can all come and see the progress next time you are in Antonito! Until next time....
Best,
Stathi
