If your referring to the metal the arrow is pointing to it may be something leaned up against the smoke box front. I don't think it is anything permanent. I haven't seen any other photos of 453 during this time with any type of rod extending up on the smoke box front like that. There is also a lot of other debris on the pilot deck as well. Kind of looks like a gauge bar. Interesting photo.
