480 is moving a work outfit somewhere on the line or it's moving them from Cumbres to Alamosa. Any rate neat photo. The cars were painted in MOW grey except W489 up front which is still painted black. Water cars were painted black prior to 1941 keeping with the standard for work equipment where metal cars were painted black and wood cars were painted red. After 1941 a lot of the MOW equipment metal or wood was painted grey. I really love seeing these MOW trains. See the attached photo of water car 0470 showing the black paint. Also note the 0470 has the new Flying Grande herald where the 478 pulling the train has yet to get the new herald. Photos are from my personal collection originally shot by Richard B Jackson.
