Boxcar Markings or Herald?

I have come across a diamond "herald" on the side of some boxcars that I cannot identify.
The photos are from the late 1890s or early 1900s on the F&CC.
Did the D&RG or affiliates ever use a diamond herald?
Originally I was thinking it might be Rio Grande Western, but the shape is different, and it appears to be solid.
If not a R.R. Herald, my uneducated guess is it might be a marking used to identify a car designated for explosives?
Sorry I don’t have better photos to post.
