FWIW, Michael -

There's a shot on page 55 of Beebe & Clegg's Rio Grande showing #464 in service on the RGS with a plow but without the step and handrail on her smokebox. I have no idea when #463's step & handrail were removed, but clearly they were gone by 1972 – and probably gone before Gene Autry bought her.

IIRC, there were several photos of #463 in Allan Brewster's early 1970's articles in Model Railroader. I'll dig into the trunk in my closet later today . . .
