I assume you mean post-1930. My WAG would be about 4, 2 on each end. Most RGS trains seem to have been double-headed over the grades, trains ran once a week or slightly more often at times. So, with a two day round trip to Rico from either end, two engines on each section could handle 2 or 3 trains a week.

Yes. Check out Jimmy's current posts about May of 1949 and check the activity at Montrose. While many(most) of the sheep are being brought in from Utah are headed for points on the soon to be abandonded Black Canyon line, several carloads have gone south to Ridgway for transfer to the RGS.
