And often the early snows melt (or just sublime) off in the bright snow at low elevations.
Of the years I lived in Gunnison I can only recall one winter (of 6) when there was major accumliaciton in town before mid to late December. (of course that was My wife's first winter in Gunnison)
Late January to early April was always the big snow time. I do remember standing in my driveway being snowed on on my birthday (June 5th) one year...
