I rode that Goose on Sat. September 30 from Antonito to Chama. The weather was cold, rainy, and generally miserable, but the scenery was amazing. We did not turn on the heat in the Goose, and most of us were thoroughly cold by lunchtime. The meatloaf at Osier was MUCH appreciated, as were the mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, a small slice of pie, a helping of hot cobbler, and a BIG cup of coffee (or two). Despite the cold, the trip was a fantastic success and I would do it again in an instant. The lunch at Osier was a perfectly timed reprieve from the cold of the day.
The Osier lunch was appreciated again during the Fireman school. After shoveling all that coal, climbing up on the tender to fill the tank, and riding in the hot cab, it was a relief to get to Osier, wash my hands in a proper sink, and get a good satisfying meal.
The lunch stop at Osier is really a high point of the Cumbres & Toltec experience. The staff there are, as is typical of C&T staff, wonderful.
