Thanks for the photo Dave, I remember crawling on my belly under all of that stuff through the ashes looking for metal parts and brought home almost a ton of hard to find metal parts from those three cars. Bob Tully told me that some of those parts I brought to Chama were in better condition than some of the parts on our historic rolling stock. There were about 5 of us going through the remains like army ants, and we only stopped when my poor pickup was about to bottom out it's springs. John Bush got the 3 sets of trucks for Roaring Camp R/R so nothing went to waste. The Friends came back later in the summer with two trailers to get some of the bigger parts that I couldn't carry in my pickup.
Will we use all of the items? Probably not, but there are many cars now running that would be sitting waiting for parts to complete them if we had not got the parts and stashed them in the swamp for use later. We are not a class 1 railroad as ALL of our equipment would have all been scrapped long ago, but thats what makes it special.
