FWIW, I visited Chama for a couple of days earlier this month, just before heading over to Antonito to participate in the RGS Charter. I've visited both ends of the railroad quite a number of times in the last decade, and on this most recent visit, I found the yard cleaner and less cluttered than I had ever seen it. In fact, it looked pretty barren, perhaps because some equipment was on the other side for the charter. The progress on some pieces of equipment, such as the Jordan Spreader, was obvious. In my experience, it looked like it should look. It wouldn't be a railroad yard without a little clutter and some hastily discarded stuff here and there.
Perhaps John West can give us some commentary as to what it looked like when he visited in the 60s and how that compares with what he sees when he visits now.
