SVRy materials show that the purchase was from American Iron & Metal Co. of Denver, 11/16/39. The price was $20,000 FOB Mack. Freight to South Baker, Ore. was $2561 on 426,260 lbs. The total cost to put the 2 engines in service on the SVRy was $38,547.88. This included the purchase, freight, value of tenders added, materials for conversion and overhaul, labor for overhaul and conversion, misc. shop overhead expense and casualty insurance. When they were sold to Hyman-Michaels Co. of Chicago in 1947, SVRy received $65,000 for the pair. Looks like it was a very good deal for SVRy for engines that had been in service for most of 7 years on top of the obvious profit.
