It has always somewhat mystified me how quickly the Oahu Railway wound down after the busy days of WWII. Most railways suffered a lingering death, but apparently the Dillingham folks saw the future coming and acted quickly. When I visited in 1962 (cuurtesy of the USN) in addition to the diesel switching there were still significant remnants of the double track mainline and block signal system . It was quite a system in its day, especially for a tight little island.
