IIRC, there's also a trail from U.S. 50 down to the river west of the dam,* and once you get to the bottom you're on the D&RG(W) r.o.w. My daughter Cindy and I hiked down there back in August of 2004, but I was a mere whipper-snapper m'self back then and wouldn't want to try it these days. I vaguely remember posting a photo or two of Jackelopette hiking along the old grade and sitting on a rock by the river, but couldn't find them just now.

* I remember we stopped to check out the D&RGW loco on the bridge (not back yet since restoration, IIRC), but don't remember whether the trail to the river started there or from a different turn-off along U.S. 50. More likely from the next overlook to the east, come to think of it.
