Regular vs Tourist sections?

I've always found it interesting that the Emigrant (Tourist) sleepers aparently didn't follow what the late Mr. Beebe used to refer to as "Palmer's Law" of one person to a berth. Perhaps the morals of emigrants were considered beyond improvement?
IE: half of the berths on the Emigrant sleepers were 47" wide vs. 34.5" wide on the standard narrow gauge Pullmans.
I sometimes wonder if one of those old Pullman cars might survive somewhere in Mexico...
