After reading through this thread, I will just state that I am glad that the C&S Railway Society is giving some much needed TLC to C&S caboose 1006.
I agree that not everything needs to be restored to operable condition, but at the same time, wood does not last forever, and it deteriorates, rots and disintegrates over time. To insist that to preserve a large wooden construction like a caboose means to never replace any of the wood parts condemns that piece to slow destruction, even when the piece is kept indoors and out of the weather.
