The Puffing Billy - Has anyone ridden it?

My wife and I are considering a trip to Australia in the summer of '18.

If I'm going to be cooped up in a plane for that long and miserable (I'm 6'4" and not a fan of flying to begin with) I'm going to ride the Puffing Billy.

Can anyone comment on the ride? The accommodations in the area? What to do and perhaps more importantly what NOT to do?

Are the shops open for tours?

I have been following the rebuild of the NG-16 129 and would love to see it in operation as well as the G-42.

Any and all comments or information would be appreciated in selling this to the wife - especially non-rail related activities for the spouse.
