While I don't think this would classify as a "tool" in the classical sense, about 30 years ago when we were driving home from Tonopah Nev. I stopped our minivan up by the location of where the Basalt station was just east of Montgomery pass on the old Carson and Colorado R/R. It was after Thanksgiving and there was some snow on the ground and it was COLD, so I left the engine running for my family while I did some exploring. After a few minutes I came across half of the spout for the water tank used to service engines on their way to Montgomery pass. I ran back to the car showing my wife and kids my snow and frozen mud covered treasure I had discovered, but for some reason they weren't as excited as I was. Joanie later told me that one daughter asked if "dad was going to bring that thing home"? Joanie told her that if it had something to do with trains, you could bet on it.
