I recall the Southern Steam Program in the early 1970s.
I did a pacing drive (no photos) one time and realized the danger of split attention. It was exciting to be next to the drivers and all the action but way too dangerous.
As a side comment. Between Alamosa and Antonito on US 285 when the dual gauge was still there, I wonder if a designated bus driver pacing the D&RGW steam locos and having paying riders for pacing shots might have become a self supporting venture.
