This photo is interesting and mention of Silver Vista. Thats because there was the Nolan Black excursion that ran about a week earlier than the date on your photo. It started in Alamosa as they rode the San Juan, with extra cars, including the Silver Vista. I want to say off the top of my head that was June 14, 1947. Anyway that train had the Silver Vista. The second day they had a ride on the Silverton Mixed with 463 leading with the extra coaches that were put on the San Juan. This included the Silver Vista. So I wonder if this is actually the Nolan Black train. Otherwise why would so many people be there. Could it be the first use of the Silver Vista was on the Nolan Black excursion. Would so many show up just to see the Silver Vista? Maybe yes if there was a special excursion as part of it??? Interesting photo and caption nonetheless.
