In the "stealth" thread the subject of "mixed" trains comes up in a couple of ways. In terms of photo specials the D&S has been the venue for recreated mixed trains because that was the way the Silverton branch was operated for many years. Attached are a few pix of recreated Silverton mixed trains over the years. Fairly prototypical and nice to have real passenger cars to ride in. And makes handling a larger crowd easier if you need or want more people. Charters on the C&TS have generally not been mixed trains for two reasons: so far as I know the DRGW did not run mixed trains between Antonito and Chama, and the C&TS does not have any authentic passenger cars (the new passenger cars are great for their intended use, but really don't look much like historic cars, at least to us nit pickers). Of course the second part of that may change soon as several historic passenger cars are been restored for the C&TS. And if the C&TS can recreate an RGS train, why not a mixed that might have run on some other DRGW line. So I look forward to having historic passenger cars available, it will open up some new possibilities without having to cram people into stealth boxcars.
