Cupola seats for Rio Grande (short) Class 2 Cabeese

I've been interested in short Rio Grande cabooses for about 20 years. In A Centuary + Ten of D&RGW Narrow Gauge Freight cats, by Robert E. Sloan, a Class 2 caboose had a 17' body and built with 8 wheels, and renumbered to the 0573 to 0583 series. One of the most puzzling characteristics I've seen is the cupola seats in 0578. As below. According to Sloan "In Class 2 cabooses, there were only two bench cupola seats, alight lengthwise with a backrest on one end in contrast to the class 1 cabooses:.

Note that Sloan is wrong with respect to 0574. That is a long caboose,.
