So chain hanging down from above brake beam, attached to frame or draft gear somewhere? I take it this is in case the couplers part then the cars stay connected to the loco and fewer passengers/survivors have reason to complain? I have seen pictures of them doing something similar on log flats but, duh, hadn't thought of it for passengers. Thank you. But did they ever hang extra links on cars or did the brakemen just carry an extra.
