. . . and badly damaged many years ago when a big batch of chemicals left over from the steam era were dumped into the river when the old shop buildings in Dunsmuir were being demolished; IIRC, the fish population from Dunsmuir south to Shasta Reservoir was pretty much wiped out.  See bottom of [ngdiscussion.net] for pics of the RR at Castella and at Dog Creek just north of the reservoir.
