Re: SVRy #4 stack

There are several possible reasons for the change here. The sunflower type stack she sports in 2 of the photos were designed to keep hot sparks and cinders from escaping and starting fires. They were most needed in the dry summer and fall times of the years. When installed they impeded steaming to a certain extent as they affected the drafting of the smokebox. Becuase of this, these stacks were often removed in the wet winter and early Spring months so the engine could draft properly.

This may explain why the spark arrestor stack is off in the middle photo. Or, since the engine was just rebuilt they may have been test running her without the spark arrestor simply to see how she drafted with no spark arrestor to impede her.
