Brian, I think there are traces of the siding on the ground that I remember seeing when my wife and I hiked down the SVRy mainline into the valley 3 or 4 years ago, though I can't see it looking at Google Earth. It does seem likely that there was a phone at the White Pine depot, and quite likely an extension of the phone line down to White Pine proper as it was a fair sized company town a bit of which is in the first photo attached. Notice in Jim's photo that there is an extension on the near pole with a single insulator on top, like it might have been to get the line high enough for clearance over the track and be able to run to an insulator on the gable of the depot. This brings us back to the nagging question as to whether the SVRy was using telephones (takes two wires) or telegraphones (one wire). SVRR has a portable phone on lone to the Baker Heritage Museum shown in the attached photo. We know that portable phones were carried on the trains from extant records. Which type they were is still a question.
