There was no need to operate from Alamosa to Antonito. There was not enough business. Occasionally locomotives were sent to Alamosa for shopping and replacement locomotives sent down the next day. That was it.
When a Chili Line crewman laid off their replacement came from the Alamosa extra board. The same happened when an extra brakeman was needed due to when the train exceeded a certain number of cars. (I forget the number)
