My ignorance will soon show but what started me on this line of thought was looking at pictures of train 425(?) separating from the San Juan at Antonio. Then I saw pictures of 425(?) approaching Santa Fe with a mixed train.

So, how were these trains assembled? Was the freight already in Antonio? If so, why were the movements done this way? Was this the cheapest option? How was this handled on 426? How did this work when the Santa Fe locomotive stayed in Antonio?
