The last place I purchased gas for $0.499 per gallon was in late 1973 or early 1974 at Pleasantdale road and I85 in Gwinnett County GA.

We had wage and price controls. OPEC drove up the price of oil to flex its muscles for the first time. From then until the 1980, interest rates skyrocketed into the 25% area until Reagan took office. in 1980

There was talk about the giving of jobs to people due to need instead of due to qualifications. And we had our only US President take office that was never elected to the executive branch of the Federal Government.
