484 did the honors. Yours truly was the engineer. It was a lot of fun working with Spielberg and Lukas. There was actually 2 two cabooses used. 05635 (because it looked "funky" we let them do what they wanted to the interior), and an oversized version for the interior shots that had a false floor that was built on a 6600 flat.
They were very proud of the interior of the caboose shot. Note from the moment young Jones enters the car, to when he seen running down the track away from the train, it is one seamless shot with one camera. The fake body had enough room under it for Jones to climb into the trunk, drop through the floor to the flat car deck and have the floor closed up again for when the bad guy opens the trunk. The guy running off down the track probably was a stunt double they had staged. Cool shot. Most people don't realize how cool the shot was...
The prop department built the caboose body on the flat on inside the Antonito car shop. when we pulled it out, it was discovered the cupola was too tall the clear the doors, requiring some disassembly to move it out.
The house is in Antonito. For a while it was the "Indiana Jones Bed & Breakfast". While Harrison Ford showed up to watch the proceedings for a few days, he was not on camera. Sean Connery was probably note even on the continent when his "hands" were filmed.
I have a bunch of slides. I guess I have to dig them up...
