They would still faint dead away from altitude sickness! The problem with operating diesels at high altitude was cured in 1968 with the arrival of 10 turbocharged 6-axle units from Alco - Euskalduna in Spain.
I n 1992,10 more diesel electric engines arrived from GEC-Alsthom. These were type AD24 Bo'Bo'Bo'. Part of the order were a state gift of the former french President Mitterand.
