SFAIK, you're both right -
As noted by TomSTP above, #638 and #610 were donated to Dallas and Fort Worth, respectively, in the mid 1950's. IIRC, #638 was extensively vandalized and weather-beaten, became an eyesore & liability, and was eventually scrapped by the city. #610 probably escaped succumbing to a similar fate sooner or later when she was pulled out of the park in Fort Worth in 1975, moved onto an isolated siding in the stockyard area, and restored for use on the American Freedom Train. A year or two after her three-week stint pulling the AFT in February of 1976 she was leased by the Southern Railway for a couple of years, and then stored on the Army Base in Fort Worth for a while before being moved to the Texas State Railway. I'm sure that Tom can supply further details and more precise dates.
