As far as geared locomotives go, both Pickering and nearby West Side Lbr. preferred their Heislers over Shay types for this work. The drive line for the Heislers sat up higher and inside the rails while that of a Shay was down lower and much closer to the ground where rocks and debris could be hidden in the snow.
Pickering had one 3T Heisler, the 2 spot whose yearly mileage in the late 40's and into the 50's was pretty much confined to just that duty, snow removal. Her yearly mileage figures were always in the Spring and sometimes also in Nov/Dec.
