Thanks for the response, Will. I figured it was something like that. Most tourist operations are getting all of their maintenance and restoration work done during the winter months.
I've only had a brief look at The Loop, when I stopped by for a few hours on my way from Durango back to Denver to catch a flight. It's a very interesting line and I thought the 111 looked (and sounded) great on the hill. I managed a few pics in the short time I was there:

Would love to see a photo charter there. This is a line where you really have to be at the right places at the right times for perfect light. If no freight cars are available, just the 111 with some of the steel coaches (are they from White Pass??) would be a great little train.
