Hole in the Chama Roundhouse wall

From the looks of the redone brick work in the south wall of the Chama Roundhouse / machine shop, it looks like a locomotive punched a hole in the wall.
What happened to cause this damage and when?
The second picture shows the same wall from inside the machine shop, with all the bracing holding the wall together.
