First Maine Winter Weekend went Excellent

The first Maine Winter Narrow Gauge steam event went over excellent. By the end of the first day everyone was so pleased, but the best was yet to come.

Day 1:
We ran two trains at a time, and ran 4 different trains over the course of the day. Weather was excellent in the early morning.

Day 2:
The day started off with the two engine train leaving with Monson 3 leading and WW&F #9 as a rear pusher. This is the first time a two engine train has operated in this fashion on the railroad in over 85 years. With a static pose at a open field to see the entire train, a few runbys were performed. Next we backed up to Alna Center to cut off on the fly. Photographers enjoyed it but wanted something else just for show. The engines went back one at a time for turning, while the second engine was getting turned the other performed runbys with the 7 car train.

Once both engines pulled the heavy train alone, a special request was made to run a double header. Although it was not historic to the two footers, we decided it would be a great grand finale. All in all it was a great weekend. Everyone had smiles, and loved the event.


Seats are still available for the second Weekend event Jan 21 & 22. Current weather forecast shows mostly sunny and 44 degrees both days. If anyone is intetested in capturing this once in a lifetime event send an email to reservations@wwfry.org

Seats have been limited to 30, to keep crowds decent sized.
