A Bad Day For SVRy Eng. 16 And It's Crew

DWJ suggested I share this series of wreck scenes. This wreck with engine 16 occurred in 1922 and was only a short distance below the wreck that occurred in 1919 that was described in this tread: [ngdiscussion.net] which was at MP 32. The attached map shows a line revision that was completed in 1917. The original alignment went around the point of a ridge with a fairly shallow cut. At the junction of the new and old alignments was a trestle "Johnson's Jump Off" over a small ravine, which had a water tank at the lower end of the cruved trestle. The new alignment was created by making a deep cut through the ridge. The spoils from the cut were used to make a fill in the ravine eliminating the trestle. The water tank was also removed at this time. The wreck shown in the 4 scenes occurred in the cut which I have identified on the map in red. What a job that must have been to clean up. The 4 photos were donated to SVRR Archives by the great grand daughter of M.G. Hutchens who was a long time SVRy fireman and engineer. The map is also from the SVRR Archives.
