Re: Taking Action to Help Save the EBT in 2017

If it is to be revived again itself is the question. I think we can eliminate any dreams of revenue freight when the economics in the 1950s ruled against that. In the 45 years or so that it operated as a for profit tourist railroad, the holding company took no action to revive freight operations or large scale mining operations, even when coal was in strong demand. The question of revenue frieght was brought up by other fans over 10 years ago on another discussion list, and at that time it was pretty clear it ain't happening.

The point of my post is, there are preservation activities going on, and it is the FEBT that is doing the bulk of it. There are many resources to read up to gather the gist of the current state of affairs at EBT, including previous posts on NGDF. Of the complete, relatively intact, heritage railways of today, this one is the most at risk of disappearing. It is worth saving, however it will take a few more participants in the restoration, and other fortunate events, for things to really happen to turn the corner on the future of the EBT.
Thanks for reading.
