which explains this horse and cart picture taken the year earlier on 268's way to the Butte. Back in the mid-80's before the Vans were taken off the rear, we had a couple of lazy Guards that couldn't be bothered with changing, lighting or even hanging the sidelamps on runs out of our country depot. I had wondered if that was the case here since these two examples were obviously daytime out and back runs.
An aside to the OP's picture, they would have had to have run to Sapinero to turn the 268, probably picked up the cars there, that hasn't been mentioned in captions but they all said loading at Iola
