Yeah, parts and tools ain't cheap!
As I posted on the 18" group, I found 8 barbell weights for $30 at the auction last weekend but in looking for 2 1/2" slabs of 10" o.d. by 1" wall 4140 steel tubing, they came out to $67.50 each PLUS cutting fees PLUS shipping from Portland. So I am looking around locally for scrap. My last 'cheap' project, my O scale layout took me 10 years of scrounging for scraps and finding deals on parts and supplies before I laid a single rail! I was hoping to build my 1/2 scale D&RG 4-wheel flat and 3/4 scale motor car this winter but I might spend the time scrounging for materials...
