That was the very last revenue freight from Alamosa to Farmington -
Which ran on Wednesday, August 28, 1968, from Alamosa to Chama, where #498 arrived from Durango that evening with 17 loads of lumber and several empties. On August 29 - with #484 as rear helper as far as Cumbres - #498 pulled the last revenue freight from Chama to Alamosa, stopping at Toltec Siding to pick up a flatcar carrying a bulldozer and a boxcar of tools and supplies. #483 pulled the freight from Chama to Durango on the 29th, and on August 31 pulled the last train from Durango to Farmington and return.
Greg is right - I have posted that photo too many times, but it's one of my lifetime favorites and seemed relevant to the trees & brush discussion. (I would have just posted a link, but the current NGDF search capability - unlike the previous version - doesn't pick up photo filenames embedded in attachments, and I couldn't remember enough of the context to find any of the previous postings easily.)
