Locomotive No. 493

The Colorado Railroad Museum has decided not to pursue the acquisition of Locomotive No. 493 from the Durango & Silverton at this time. Negotiations for the locomotive began several months ago as the Museum sought a potential backup for Locomotive No. 491, in the absence of other options. The restoration would have involved significant resources and fund raising effort to complete, and with an opportunity to have Lindsey Ashby’s diesel equipment return to the Museum, those resources and fundraising efforts can focus on important Museum restoration projects. The Museum values its strong working relationship with the Durango & Silverton and will continue to collaborate on other projects.
