That Tabasco was simply to add spice to the photo...
The part I find confusing is that the plans I have, from Sloan's book, also shows the blade as being 8' wide.
If you look at this photo on the Friends site:

It appears as if the plow was at least 9 feet wide, perhaps slightly wider, using the track gauge as a measuring tool. Looking at other photos in that series, there seems to be quite a bit of overhang beyond the sides of the gon. Not sure if that gon is the same width as a standard 5 board high side, but I don't see anything in Sloan's to indicate it isn't. I haven't been able to find any pics of the interior of the gon from the perspective of the underside of the plow...
I'm guessing from the large bolts near the top/rear that thee must have been some kind of internal cross bracing, at least in the photos taken in 1949.
These bolts seem to have "disappeared" from the photos taken in 1954. Is there a possibility the plow was replaced? I understand that it was actually a locomotive plow they used, were there maybe more than one of them?
Also, was the car ever painted in MOW grey or did it live out it's life in freight car brown?
Too bad this wasn't one of the pieces of equipment that was preserved...
Thanks, Robert
