I was hoping to ask a few questions in the "United States Potash" thread, but seeing as it's been locked due to inactivity, I've had to start a new thread for research I am currently doing about the railroad, I have two questions as of now.
1) Are there any records of specifications or any sort of diagrams existing about the General Electric 70-ton diesel locomotives bought between 1948 and 1956? Was it ever explained why were the trucks so specialized on these locomotives that they could not be used on any other railroads when they were sold off to a secondhand dealer in Alabama?
2) Is there any evidence or photographs of antique Borate & Daggett Railroad equipment surviving long enough to be used on the United States Potash Railroad? 4 gondolas and 3 flats (including the 2 watercars) were bought to Death Valley Junction after refurbishment at Ludlow in 1913, and it seems likely they should've lasted long enough to make the trip to New Mexico. I've heard reports that the watercars (original B&D nos. 5 and 6) were used for a while on the potash railroad. They should've carried their ex-Death Valley Railroad numbers as Nos. 50 and 51 respectively.
