What kills me is that in the fall of 2012, my wife and I made an epic cross-country (Tallahassee, Florida to Seattle) road trip and we had to haul to make it to Salt Lake City from Mesa Verde, starting out that day in the afternoon. We went fast over a lot of barren areas, most of Utah was at night.
I didn't realize until after we'd gotten home that we'd driven right over Soldier Summit. Even if I'd known it wouldn't have made a difference for as late as it was by then. Didn't see a single train over that route, though...
