That was in late August train. Don Gibbs was the engineer. It was to have been a doubleheader but Andy Payne laid off so he could take pictures. The train went to Gato on Day one and returned to Durango. It went from Durango to Chama on Day Two. The 498 went on to Alamosa and the 483 was used on the westbound.
On the July train the 498 broke down enroute, spring hanger I think. It was repaired and went on. The westbound trip got back to Durango about 2 a.m. The crew rested for the required 8 hours in Chama and returned.
