We encountered the mysterious FES diesel in November 1970. It was working a local freight between San Salvador and Sitio del Nino. In the first picture it is in the hole for one of the regular mixed trains pulled by FES 112 (formerly FIdeCA 112 and a sister to the 111 at the Loop). We heard somewhere that the diesel had been purchased used from Columbia. In a enlargement of the second picture the words Siemens are clearly readable on one of the builders plates, but the other plate is illegible. On subsequent visits to the FES we never saw the 201 in service again, so can only assume it was not a great success, probably because of the problems with maintaining a diesel on a railroad set up to repair steam engines.
